I live in Utah. The airport elevation is ~4500ft. The density altitude during the summer gets over 8000ft DA.
Losing 3%HP for every 1000ft above sea level means we're losing ~24% of the 50HP. That bring the available power down to 38HP. Plus the lack of lift/thrust provided by the rotor/propeller in the thinner air.
Does anyone have experience operating the 50HP model at these density altitudes?
If so, what is the performance like?
(I.e. climb rate, takeoff distance...)
Thanks in advance!
Jason
I believe the highest elevation flying in the states is Nick in Idaho and i think he is about the same elevation as you, hopefully he can chime in.
I know Lukas from Fusioncopter has been up to at least 8000ft with no issues.
I would recommend fuel injection at your elevation and summer DA.
